healthy-and-flourishing To me, health is much more than nutrient profiles of foods and metabolic effects of exercise. Health is life.Without health, there is no adventure, no love, and no accomplishment.

I do not study "health" so much as I study human flourishing. When humans truly flourish, they have a healthy body and a healthy mind.The body and mind are inextricably linked, and one cannot study one but not the other. What follows is a blueprint for flourishing.

  • Fuel
  1. Eat foods that are nutritionally dense. Many of these foods were eaten by those in the paleolithic era.
  2. Avoid foods that are harmful to the body and mind. Many of these foods were not eaten by those in the paleolithic era.
  3. Learn how to prepare food in a way that is conducive to health. Cooking is an important skill, and how food is cooked matters.
  4. Be conscious when eating and develop a positive relationship with food and appetite.
  • Movement
  1. Manage sedentary time appropriately and frequently engage in low level movement. Be aware of posture during both.
  2. Challenge your whole body with resistance training and high effort sprint workouts.
  • Habits
  1. Spend time in the outdoors and expose yourself to the sun.
  2. Prioritize sleep and foster optimal sleep habits.
  3. Avoid harmful compounds in our modern environment.
  • Mental
  1. Partake in activities that you enjoy, have an aptitude for, and can get lost in. Also challenge yourself with new activities and situations you are not as comfortable in.
  2. Prioritize relationships and spend time with friends and family.
  3. Make time for reflection and meditation.
  4. Get in touch with your spirituality.
  5. Manage stress by getting to the root of the problem rather than exclusively relying on de-stressing techniques.
